Fort Bulnes tour in Punta Arenas
Through this tour we will visit Fort Bulnes, built in 1843 during the government of Manuel Bulnes, later abandoned and rebuilt again between 1941 and 1943. This fort has become a must-see, since it was the first Chilean settlement in the territory. and it gave rise to the foundation of Punta Arenas.
You can choose to explore this fort through a half-day tour, where you can visit the chapel, the jail, the cannon yard, the stables, the dining rooms, all built of native wood with the blow of the ax.

Itinerary
Día 1
Fort Bulnes tour
- Start time: 8:00 am
- In our half day tour we will start our trip from Punta Arenas at approximately 8:30 AM, along a path that borders the Strait of Magellan in a southerly direction, towards the historic Fort Bulnes.
- On the way we will be able to see fields with their typical constructions, coves with fishermen, and a great marine birdlife such as cormorants, pilpilenes, carancas, and plovers among others.
- We will make a stop at the Geographic Landmark that represents the center of Continental, Insular and Antarctic Chile. Then we will enter through native forests towards the sector of Puerto del Hambre, so called due to the tragic death of all its inhabitants, who tried to colonize the strait in 1584 but died of starvation in such an inhospitable place. Here we will make a brief stop to visit its monument and surroundings.
- We will continue our way to Santa Ana, where Fort Bulnes is located (entrance not included) . This fort is the reconstruction of that first fort inaugurated by the Goleta Ancud in 1843, during the government of Manuel Bulnes and later it was abandoned to create the city of Punta Arenas.
