Itinerary
Día 1
Full Day
- Valparaiso has the shape of a natural amphitheater on the Pacific Ocean coast, with much of the city hanging from the hills in an untidy harmony, and a material and intangible heritage incorporated into the customs, traditions and particular lifestyle of its inhabitants, called "porteños".
- The guide will meet you at Sotomayor Square in front of the National Council of Culture and Arts. Start with an introduction about the city, revealing its bright past as a commercial port that is still one of the most important in South America. Walk through the old customs, which is currently part of the Chilean Army Navy area, and see the historic buildings that surround the square, all inspired by 17th-century French architecture.
- Climb Cerro Alegre and Cerro Conecpción with original funiculars, all declared. National heritage - and get the best views of the city and the ocean from your points of view. This area was listed as World Heritage by UNESCO in 2002, for its colorful houses located in crazy angles connected by a gigantic maze of streets, long stairs and viewpoints. Here you will find plenty of boutique hotels, restaurants, bookstores and craft shops.
- Then, descend to the center by funiculars and explore the "old town" full of beautiful architecture and narrow streets.
- Finish the tour by trolling through the port area: this local public transport is considered a "rolling heritage", being the second oldest transport service in South America, which has been operating since 1952.
